Daniel
Hahta “Itäharju”
Daniel
Hahta (born in 1994) comes from Turku. In 2001, he moved to the
Itäharju district and immediately this area became the main subject
of his artworks. Hahta creates imaginary views of Itäharju, based on
his personal perception. His work combines precision and fantasy.
Hahta depicts Itäharju as an undeveloped and open landscape, where
the wide flowing surfaces are enriched by small eye-catching details.
When working, he uses a liquid calligraphy marker, often also a
wooden stick and a fine brush.
Daniel Hahta is a member of the association Art Centre Into and works at ArtPompo, the art centre of the association, in Turku. Hahta is a member of the community’s art group Into ArtNotes and a group of youth art workshops. Since 2016, sculptor Sinikka Mäki-Lertola and visual artist Eija Ruoho have been his mentors.
Hahta has participated in exhibitions since 2018, and his first solo exhibition took place in 2023 at Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova gallery Into.
Every year since 2004, an artist has been chosen to be the Kettuki Artist of the Year. This year, the Head of Kondas Centre, Mari Vallikivi had the honor to choose the best artist among many excellent candidates. On her decision, Daniel Hahta from Turku became the artist of 2024. “His art is impressive in its perfection. The great variability is surprising: sometimes he fills the picture from edge to edge, other times he leaves a lot of empty space in his works. Although Daniel Hahta depicts specific places and landscapes in great detail, the works leave an abstract impression of a non-specific landscape," wrote Mari Vallikivi explaining her choice.
His works from the last few years will be on display at the solo exhibition at the Kondas Centre.
The exhibition will include a video that introduces Daniel Hahta's working method. The video is produced by Taidekeskus Into ry 2023
