“A Plant”
The exhibition displays herbarium sheets by botanist Silja Pihelgas, plant imprints by Mae Kivilo and old herbariums from the collection of Viljandi Museum.
Displayed are herbarium sheets, with a label showing the Latin and Estonian name of the plant, the name of the family, habitat, precise description of the place (GPS coordinates), date, and name of the person collecting and identifying the plant. In the framed herbariums, the specimens have been dried using a mediaeval plant press and stitched to handmade acid-free paper.
Concrete plant imprints by Mae Kivilo are like stony herbariums and are the artist’s way to record the patterns and smells of summer.
