  • Kettuki`s Artists of the Year

21.03. - 05.05.2024

Exhibition "You can never know unless you are sure". Kettuki Artists of the Year.

This exhibition is a guest exhibition of Kettuki, a long-time cooperation partner of Kondas Center.

Kettuki is a nationwide network of studios in Finland for artists who work outside the mainstream. The association was founded in 2002 and since the beginning their aim has been to achieve equality in the arts and to improve the opportunities for people in need of additional support to learn and practice art in both professional and recreational contexts.

The association includes both professional and outsider artists along with art experts, as well as over 20 art, culture and social organisations. Kettuki is the founder and coordinator of the NOA Nordic Outsider Art network. Since 2004, the Kettuki Artist of the Year has been selected every year, where the artist is chosen from among many candidates, and one of the criterias is the artist’s unique personal style.

The exhibition "You can never know unless you are sure" has a collection of works from various Kettuki Artists of the Year in the range of 20 years. The title of this exhibition is borrowed from the artwork of Kettuki Artist of the Year 2010 Matti Rauhaniemi. Exhibited are the works of the following artists: Harri Blomberg, Joannis Clementides, Paul Gustafsson, Hanna Keynäs, Kalevi Helvetti, Antero Laine, Kirsi Mikkonen, Riina Noro, Tiina Elina Nurminen, Aleksi Pietikäinen, Tuula Rantanen, Matti Rauhaniemi, Kenneth Rasmussen, Miia Ruohonen, Pasi Soukkala.

In addition to the aforementioned, a personal exhibition of Daniel Hahta, who was chosen as Kettuki Artist of the Year 2024, is also open in Kondas.

Both exhibitions are pilot projects for the exhibition series "Hidden Worlds Expanding”, which is part of the main program of European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024.

The Kondas Center thanks Kettuki ry for the honor of organising the exhibition of the Kettuki Artist of the Year 2024 and for the opportunity to present to the Estonian audience the fruits of Kettuki's 20 years of work.

Curator of the exhibition: Mari Vallikivi
