"Mystery at the colonial goods" by
Anna Wildrose
Twenty
years ago Anna Wildrose opened a tiny shop, full of fabulous things,
in downtown Helsinki. She had just decided to give up her day job for
good, create an artist alias
for herself and make art her livelihood. The tiny shop didn't
survive, but Wildrose stubbornly continued making her wonderful
items. And now, twenty years later, both the number of disguarded
things and items made of them have grown remarkably.
There
is no doubt about it: consumer society produces a sense of
voraciousness and makes people desire things that don't belong to
them. This exhibition presents us an image of a world of consumerism,
brimful of lushious material ambitions and yearning for the exotic.
At the Colonial Goods you have one last chance to collect everything
that the world has produced – and what's starting to overwhelm it.
